At the start, Flavien, Houssine, Ismael, Aymeric and Ugo cast a last glance at their bikes. They come from varying backgrounds and include: a courier, an architecture student and a musician, all sharing a unique passion for cycling. Whilst their preferred means of transport in the city is a solid fixed-wheel bike, they only need a few minutes to get used to the five vintage bicycles! These are compulsory in L’Eroica, as only bikes manufactured before ‘87 are authorised on the Gaiole roads. It is a genuine flashback to days gone by, much revelled by some, who also sport traditional period outfits and accessories!
Inspired by cycling outfits from the ‘60s, the jerseys worn by the gang are made from knitted merino wool: cyclist collar to the side, original zip, buttoned pockets on the back and large contrasting stripes. A range of trend-led colours adorn four of the new Autumn-Winter 2012 jerseys: sky blue, Olympian blue, navy blue and chalk with hints of cumin and botanic green. The original jersey of the Italian cycling tour and a colour block version in retro burgundy and chalk complete the range.
